Lazada Group last week released its inaugural Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) Impact Report, which underscores the eCommerce company’s commitment to being an accountable and transparent force for good for the planet as well as the communities it serves across Southeast Asia.
Titled “Shaping the Future of the Digital Economy,” the report outlines Lazada’s ESG initiatives and progress across Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam during the reporting period of 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022. The report also reasserted the company’s plans to continue leveraging digital commerce and technology to create a better, fairer, safer and more sustainable world for all.
“As Lazada celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, we also celebrate 10 years of digital commerce in Southeast Asia. It is also a timely milestone to release our first ESG Impact Report, and I am pleased to share our progress in accelerating the growth of digital commerce in the region and making a difference through our operations,” said Lazada Group Chief Executive Officer James Dong.
Drawing upon various data sources as well as internal and external stakeholders’ input, the comprehensive report sets out an ESG framework for Lazada’s efforts and achievements across four key pillars. One of these pillars covers the company’s efforts to empower communities through job opportunities, services, infrastructure and capacity-building. The framework also looks at how the eCommerce giant has built an inclusive and future-ready workforce, managed its environmental impact as a responsible steward of the Earth and implemented effective governance structures to create a safer and more secure digital ecosystem.
“As Southeast Asia’s pioneer digital commerce platform, we are committed to enabling a sustainable and healthy ecosystem that connects buyers and sellers while supporting the transition to a low-carbon future,” said Lazada Group Chief Financial Officer Frank Luo. “I believe digital commerce will continue to rise alongside environmental awareness. This is an opportunity for change in the next normal, and I am delighted to see the level of activity and dedication that is taking place across the company. Lazada’s first ESG Impact Report has demonstrated what we are capable of, and I am excited about what lies ahead.”
Dong echoed this sentiment and added: “This report is only the start of our journey. I am looking forward to stronger collaborations with our partners and stakeholders around how we can leverage our position as a leading eCommerce platform to shape the future of a sustainable digital ecosystem.”
