Lazadian Legend: Pham Thi Quynh Trang, 33, Chief Operating Officer, Lazada Vietnam

Our “Humans of Lazada” series takes a look at the professional and personal lives of more than 9,000 people who work at Lazada. As part of our 10th-anniversary celebrations, we are also profiling employees who have been with us for over the last decade in a new subseries called “Lazadian Legend.”

“The pressure you feel at work is inevitable. But if you look at it as a motivating force, it will help you get out of bed in the morning, ready to face new challenges. It has been my personal driving force for what has been nearly nine years of working at Lazada.

When I joined Lazada Vietnam, it was just a fledgling startup. I had previously worked for an established FMCG corporation and felt only like a cog in the wheel of a much larger machine, unsure if I was making a difference.

But at a startup, especially one in a fast-paced industry, a single action can quickly add value or cause problems for the team. I began to feel the full weight of everything that I was doing. I was making a difference and feeling the impact, but with that came pressure that I had not experienced before. It made me push myself and my limits, which taught me more about my strengths and weaknesses, enabling me to understand and improve myself day by day. Over the years, I had the opportunity to rotate through various functions, gain different perspectives on how an eCommerce platform operates and learn from my colleagues and business partners. Even today, after nearly nine years, I am still experiencing new challenges and being exposed to new opportunities every day.

When people ask me how to strike a healthy work-life balance amid the pressure, I tell them it’s more about work-life integration. This means making quality time for ourselves and our loved ones throughout the day. In my opinion, no path to success is paved with roses; we all have to face and deal with our challenges to achieve our goals. I like to call it a ‘healthy pressure,’ which is the pressure to change, thrive and seize opportunities worthy of your efforts.”
