Lazadian Legend: Gita Andika Rosalina Situmeang, 27, Fulfillment & Infrastructure – Facility Management & Maintenance, Lazada Indonesia

Our “Humans of Lazada” series takes a look at the professional and personal lives of more than 9,000 people who work at Lazada. As part of our 10th anniversary celebrations, we are also profiling employees who have been with us for over the last decade in a new subseries called “Lazadian Legend.”

“About six years ago, I took a walk around my neighborhood one morning and came across a long line of people. Intrigued, I asked them why they were standing in line and found out that Lazada had just opened its second warehouse in Indonesia and were looking for people to pack products for customers. ECommerce was still relatively new back then, so that was my first encounter with Lazada and the concept of online shopping. As it happened, my cousin went to work at Lazada. Seeing how happy she was with her job, I also signed up and was hired to work in the quality check and customer service team.

We had a pretty tight-knit team, and I got along with almost everyone – with the exception of this one guy. We seemed to end up always arguing over the smallest things. He would purposely point out typos in my emails and use the opportunity to poke fun at me, which got on my nerves. One day, my supervisor assigned us to work on a project together. At that time, I thought he had gone mad, since he knew we didn’t get along!

My supervisor wouldn’t budge, so we had no choice but to learn to work together to get the work done. To my surprise, I found that he was actually quite a nice, caring and genuine person, and his attempts to pick at me were to help me improve and become better at my job. The arguments lessened, and I found myself looking forward to seeing him at work every day. After working late together, he would also send me home almost every day. Our relationship gradually blossomed and the rest, as they say, is history. We got married in 2017, about a year after I joined Lazada. Never in a million years would I have expected that our temporary partnership at work would blossom into a life-long partnership with the love of my life.

When I became a mother in 2018, the company transferred me to a different position so that I could have more flexible working hours while taking care of my newborn. Lazada has certainly been a critical part of both my professional and personal journeys. After all, how many people can say that they met their husbands or spouses where they work!”
