Our “Humans of Lazada” series takes a look at the professional and personal lives of more than 9,000 people who work at Lazada. As part of our 10th-anniversary celebrations, we are also profiling employees who have been with us for over the last decade in a new subseries called “Lazadian Legend.”
“If there is a common theme throughout my 10 years with Lazada, it is transformation – both within the company and myself. The changes that we went through, including going from manual systems to adopting digital tools by Alibaba, were truly impressive and allowed us to be more productive and efficient.
The working environment and the passion of employees at Lazada are a major reason for why I’ve stayed at this company for such a long period of time. ‘Work hard, play hard’ is our motto at the company, and the team spirit and dedication I’ve experienced here is hard to find elsewhere.
While the pandemic took a toll on all of us during these past few years, we successfully retained our position as one of the leading eCommerce platforms in the region and continued to provide a seamless online shopping experience to our Malaysian customers. We were able to achieve these results thanks to our great cross-border teamwork, and it’s been truly amazing to see how every team came together to deal with various challenges during the pandemic, whether it was related to customer care, logistics or operations. Working hand in hand, we adapted to the new normal and minimized disruptions to our customers. This would not have happened without Lazada’s great support system, which was especially strong during our mega campaign seasons.
Working with Lazada for the past 10 years has allowed me to play a substantial role in helping local entrepreneurs grow their businesses and reach new customers from all walks of life. I’ve also had a chance try out different roles, including in online marketing, customer relationship management and, now, onsite operation. Whatever area I worked in, Lazada has always provided me with the support that allowed me to excel.
Lazada has also given me the opportunity to travel and expand my horizons. For the company’s 6th birthday, I had the chance to visit the Alibaba campus in Hangzhou and meet with our team members in China. I visited the Hangzhou campus again for Alibaba’s 20th anniversary party and met employees from all over the world. I’ve even had the chance to meet Jack Ma in person, which was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had during my tenure at Lazada!
No one knew how to shop online 10 years ago and, nowadays, it’s impossible to imagine life without online shopping. It’s still amazing to me to observe all the changes that have occurred over the years that I’ve been with Lazada. It also goes to show that we have endless opportunities to grow and expand our knowledge when we are at the right company.”
