Lazada Singapore Partners with NTUC to Upskill Logistics Staff

In collaboration with Singapore’s Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU), an affiliated union of the National Trade Union Congress (NTUC), Lazada Singapore will set up and manage a company training committee to upskill more than 700 logistics staff to equip them with adaptive, technological and technical skills and prepare them for new opportunities. Lazada signed a memorandum of understanding with FDAWU on July 22 in the presence of NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng and representatives from FDAWU and Lazada Singapore.

Through the company training committee, Lazada plans to develop structured career pathways for eCommerce logistics, specifically in warehouse operations and transportation operations management. The two paths will have progression milestones with the necessary competency training and will allow employees to determine their own career progression based on their interests and talent. This means that a delivery representative can progress to be a route-planning manager or take a supervisory role to oversee a group of delivery representatives.

“As the eCommerce industry continues to mature and grow, logistics plays an increasingly important role to ensure our operations continue to run like a well-oiled machine,” said Loh Wee Lee, chief executive officer of Lazada Singapore. “As we aim for higher productivity, especially with the opening of RedMart’s industry-leading automated West Fulfilment Centre, we understand the need to also invest in our workers to lead in new technologies in the field. We look forward to working closely with FDAWU and tapping into its resources to chart meaningful career journeys for our logistics staff and foster a mindset of life-long learning.”

In addition, the NTUC Industry Training and Transformation team will also work with the eCommerce company to develop its Business and Workforce Transformation Roadmap through the Operation and Technology Roadmap tool, which is set to be ready by the end of 2022. It will outline key projects that can boost productivity through automated work processes and redesigned job roles.
